    How Smart Farming Technology Transformed a 1-Acre Fruit Farm in Ilayangudi

    Challenges Before Adopting Smart Farming Technology

    This Smart Farming Technology success story comes from Ilayangudi Taluk in Sivagangai District, where a farmer manages approximately 1 acre and 20 cents of agricultural land with around 130 fruit and vegetable plants. The farm includes mango trees, cherry plants, bitter gourd, and several other crops.

    Before implementing automation, irrigation was handled manually. The farmer had to travel to the farm daily, open and close irrigation valves, and monitor water distribution for several hours. Managing irrigation often took nearly 5 hours per day, making it difficult to balance farming activities efficiently.

    Need for Smart Farming Technology

    To improve irrigation efficiency and reduce labor dependency, the farmer decided to adopt Smart Farming Technology through a wireless irrigation automation system. The primary goal was to automate watering schedules, conserve water, and improve overall farm management.

    Since the farm relies on borewell water, efficient water management was essential. Automation provided a reliable solution that ensured crops received water at the right time while reducing unnecessary wastage.

    Installation of the Wireless Smart Farming Technology System

    Mobitech installed a TCON System equipped with multiple automated valves across the farm. The system was configured to support timer-based irrigation, cycle scheduling, and zone-wise water distribution.

    The farmer can now schedule irrigation for different sections of the farm independently. Some irrigation zones operate for 30 minutes, while others run for one or two hours based on crop requirements. This flexibility allows efficient water management throughout the farm.
