Micro Irrigation
Large Water Management SystemModern agriculture
requires efficient water management, especially in regions where water resources must be carefully utilized. In Erwadi village, Tirunelveli district, a large 440-acre farm faced several irrigation challenges
while relying on conventional irrigation practices. Monitoring irrigation activities, managing water
distribution, and ensuring crops received sufficient water required significant manual effort and
continuous field supervision.
Frequent field visits,
manual irrigation decisions, and changing weather conditions often made irrigation management
difficult. The farm owners wanted a smarter solution that could improve water efficiency, reduce labor
dependency, and support sustainable agricultural practices.
To overcome these
challenges, the farm adopted an advanced AI-powered irrigation system as part of a comprehensive
farm automation project in Tirunelveli. The primary objective was to automate irrigation operations
using real-time field data collected from sensors installed across the farm.
The automation
project initially covered 8 acres, enabling intelligent irrigation management based on soil moisture
levels, weather conditions, water availability, and crop requirements. This approach helped eliminate
guesswork and improved decision-making through data-driven automation.
As part of this farm automation in Tirunelveli project, Mobitech installed the DCON AG Smart controller
as the central automation unit. The system was integrated with advanced technologies including a flow meter, pressure sensor, pressure release valve, water level sensor, weather station, and soil moisture
sensors.
These sensors continuously collect environmental and irrigation-related data, allowing the AI system to analyze field conditions and automatically control irrigation operations. The setup manages 12 gate valves and intelligently irrigates designated zones based on actual crop requirements.
The AI-powered irrigation system significantly improved water management by ensuring irrigation occurs only when necessary. By monitoring soil moisture levels, weather conditions, and water availability, the system helps reduce water wastage and supports sustainable farming practices. Farmers also benefited from reduced labor requirements since irrigation monitoring and control can now be performed remotely. This automation minimizes manual intervention and saves valuable time during daily farm operations.
One of the major advantages of farm automation in Tirunelveli is improved crop health through precision irrigation. Real time soil moisture monitoring ensures crops receive the right amount of water at the right time, helping maintain optimal growing conditions throughout the cultivation cycle. The system prevents both over-irrigation and under-irrigation, allowing farmers to make data-driven decisions that contribute to higher productivity and better resource management.
The AI irrigation system includes a mobile application that enables complete remote monitoring and control. Farmers can check well water levels, soil moisture conditions, weather data, irrigation status, and pump performance directly from their smartphones. This smart connectivity allows farmers to manage irrigation operations from anywhere, improving operational efficiency and providing greater confidence in daily farm management.
This successful installation in Erwadi demonstrates how farm automation in Tirunelveli is transforming traditional agriculture through AI, IoT, and smart irrigation technologies. As automation solutions continue to evolve, farmers can expect even greater improvements in water efficiency, crop productivity, and sustainable farming practices. Smart irrigation systems are becoming a key component of modern agriculture and are helping shape the future of farming across Tamil Nadu.
The DCON Ag Air agriculture automation system can control 64 irrigation valves automatically.
The cost of a DCON AG Smart farm automation system depends on factors such as farm size, number of irrigation valves, automation zones, sensor requirements, and water management needs. A detailed farm assessment helps determine the most suitable automation solution for each farm.
Yes. The mobile application can be installed on multiple smartphones (up to 10 users), allowing family members to monitor and control irrigation activities together from different locations.
Yes. DCON AG Smart can be integrated with existing drip irrigation infrastructure, enabling farmers to automate irrigation scheduling, monitor field conditions, and manage irrigation operations more efficiently.
Yes. DCON AG Smart is designed to manage multiple irrigation zones and valves, making it suitable for both medium and large-scale agricultural farms that require efficient water management and automation.
Farmers can contact the Mobitech team for a farm survey and consultation. Based on the farm size, crop type, irrigation setup, and water source, a customized DCON AG Smart automation solution can be designed and installed.
