    Automatic Irrigation System for Oil Palm: 18-Acre Farm in Suryapet Achieves Smart Water Management

    Challenges Before Installing the Automatic Irrigation System for Oil Palm

    An 18-acre oil palm farm in Suryapet was facing significant challenges with manual irrigation. The farm had 17 water wells, with irrigation valves operated manually multiple times every day.

    The farmer had to open and close the valves 4 to 5 times a day, which required considerable time and physical effort. Manual operation also made it difficult to maintain consistent water distribution across the entire oil palm plantation.

    Some plants received more water than required while others received insufficient irrigation. To overcome these challenges, the farmer decided to implement an Automatic Irrigation System for Oil Palm with wireless valve control and automated irrigation scheduling.

    Automatic Irrigation System for Oil Palm Installation in Suryapet

    Mobitech technical team conducted a field survey and designed a customized Automatic Irrigation System for Oil Palm based on the farm’s irrigation requirements, water sources, pipeline network, and motor configuration.

    The installation includes 17 wireless irrigation valves controlled through a combination of three two-station controllers and twelve four-station controllers. The controllers use solar power and DC operation for reliable field-level automation.

    The system enables the farmer to control irrigation remotely through a mobile application, reducing the need for repeated manual valve operation and making irrigation management more convenient.

    Automated Watering Schedule for Oil Palm

    The Automatic Irrigation System for Oil Palm was configured with a customized watering schedule to provide the plants with consistent irrigation throughout the day.

    The programmed schedule included approximately 1.5 hours of nighttime watering and 30 minutes of daytime watering per plant. This automated schedule helps maintain suitable soil moisture while improving water absorption around the plant root zone.

    Motor Automation and Remote Control

    The farm uses a 10 HP main motor to draw water from the reservoir through a 250 mm pipeline and a 7.5 HP motor for drip irrigation and field-level water distribution.

    To coordinate motor operation, Mobitech integrated the Dcon Ag AIR  controller with SIM-based remote communication. The controller supports remote start and stop operations for multiple motors and enables the farmer to manage irrigation sequences through the mobile application.

    Pressure Protection and Motor Safety

    A Pressure Relief Valve  was installed as part of the irrigation system to help protect the pipeline network from excessive pressure. The PRV is configured to release pressure when it reaches approximately 2.5 to 3 bar.

    The system also monitors motor operating parameters such as running time, voltage, and current. Features such as dry-run and overload protection help protect the motors from unsafe operating conditions.

    The installation of the Automatic Irrigation System for Oil Palm has helped simplify irrigation management across the 18-acre plantation.

    With automated valve operation and scheduled watering, the farmer can reduce repetitive manual work while maintaining more consistent irrigation across the plantation.
