Smart Drip Irrigation System for Sugarcane Farming – DCON Ag SMART Automation Success Story

    Challenges with Traditional Flood Irrigation

Managing irrigation efficiently was a major challenge for Mr. Namasivayam, a farmer cultivating sugarcane on his 3.5-acre farm. Initially, he relied on traditional flood irrigation methods where water was supplied manually to each section of the field one by one.

This irrigation method resulted in excessive water wastage, uneven water distribution, and increased labor dependency. During dry seasons and water scarcity periods, maintaining proper irrigation became even more difficult, creating stress in daily farm management.

Transition to Smart Drip Irrigation System with Government Support

To improve water management and reduce wastage, Mr. Namasivayam decided to install a Smart Drip Irrigation System for his sugarcane farm. With the support of a 100% government subsidy for drip irrigation installation, the transition became financially accessible and practical.

The farm utilized a borewell water source connected to the drip irrigation setup, helping deliver water directly to crop roots for improved irrigation efficiency and healthier crop growth.

Challenges with Manual Drip Irrigation Operations

Although drip irrigation improved water usage, manual operation of irrigation valves remained a major challenge. The farm had 6 gate valves controlling different irrigation zones, and operating each valve manually required one full day.

Completing irrigation across the entire farm took nearly 6 days. In some situations, gate valves were accidentally left open when the farmer went outside for work, leading to unnecessary water wastage and water shortages.

Installation of DCON Ag SMART Irrigation Automation System

To solve these irrigation management issues, Mobitech introduced the DCON Ag SMART automated irrigation solution integrated with timer-based valve control and mobile app monitoring.

The Smart Drip Irrigation System included automated valve operation, borewell water management, and water storage integration for uninterrupted irrigation performance. With the DCON Ag SMART irrigation automation system, all 6 irrigation valves could now operate efficiently within a single day instead of requiring 6 separate days.

Mobile App Features for Smart Farm Monitoring

The automated irrigation system was connected to a mobile application that enabled real-time monitoring and remote control of farm irrigation activities.

Through the mobile app, the farmer could monitor motor operation status, identify active irrigation gate valves through color indicators, receive power failure notifications, and check water availability inside the irrigation system.

The application could also be accessed by multiple family members, allowing convenient irrigation management from different mobile devices without requiring physical presence on the farm.

Benefits of Smart Drip Irrigation System

After implementing the DCON Ag SMART automated irrigation setup, water management became more accurate and efficient. The farm received proper irrigation schedules without overwatering or unnecessary water loss.

The Smart Drip Irrigation System helped protect crops during drought conditions and low rainfall seasons by ensuring continuous and optimized water supply. Healthy soil moisture levels supported better sugarcane growth and improved overall crop condition.

The automation system significantly reduced manual labor and simplified daily irrigation activities. Real-time alerts and automated valve operations reduced stress and improved operational convenience for the farmer.

Future of Smart Irrigation in Agriculture

This real farm case study highlights how a Smart Drip Irrigation System is transforming traditional farming into modern precision agriculture. With mobile app-based monitoring, automated irrigation scheduling, and efficient water management, farmers can improve productivity while conserving valuable water resources for the future.

      Frequently Asked Question

The DCON Ag SMART irrigation automation system can control 64 irrigation valves automatically. In this project, 6 gate valves were operated through automated scheduling and mobile app control.

The system provides instant power failure notifications through the mobile app. Farmers also receive alerts when power returns, helping them monitor irrigation activities without staying physically near the farm.

Yes. The mobile application can be installed on multiple smartphones (up to 10 users), allowing family members to monitor and control irrigation activities together from different locations.

No. The Smart Drip Irrigation System is not only for sugarcane farming. It can be used for all types of crops such as banana, turmeric, coconut, vegetables, and many other agricultural farms. It is designed as a universal solution for efficient water management in all kinds of farming

Yes. The DCON Ag SMART mobile application allows farmers to monitor water availability in the irrigation system through real-time status indicators, and when a water sensor is installed they can clearly track the water level directly from the app, helping to prevent dry running, avoid water shortages, and ensure smooth and uninterrupted irrigation management.

With automated drip irrigation, farmers can significantly reduce manual irrigation time. In this project, irrigation that previously required 6 days of manual valve operation was completed automatically within a single day using the DCON Ag SMART system.
